Experience
Austin Miller is an attorney in the firm’s Intellectual Property and Technology Litigation Group, where he draws upon his training as a molecular and cellular biologist to develop a firm understanding of his clients’ needs in complex, technical cases. Rooted in his belief that every client deserves to have their day in court, he strives to provide effective, efficient, and reliable solutions to a wide range of intellectual property disputes.
Austin graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School with a concentration in Civil Litigation. While in law school, he represented low-income clients in the Insurance Law Clinic, advocating for those who had been denied coverage by their insurer. As an undergraduate, Austin studied the mechanisms of lysosome biogenesis and the role genetic mutations in membrane trafficking play in the development of the disorder Mucolipidosis type IV.
Counsel for leading aerospace company in international arbitration involving dispute over ownership of certain intellectual property rights and breach of joint research contract. Obtained favorable ruling in client’s favor on claimant’s breach of contract and ownership of trade secrets claims following a three-day hearing.
Counsel for defendants in JDS Technologies, Inc. v. Avigilon USA Corporation, Inc. et al. in patent infringement action in the Eastern District of Michigan regarding networked security systems. Following a recommendation by appointed special master that the court grant summary judgment in defendants’ favor, a confidential settlement was reached that dismissed all claims against Avigilon.
Represents Willis Electric Co., Ltd. in patent infringement litigation against Polygroup Ltd. relating to patented artificial pre-lit Christmas trees.
Represented Somali father and daughter in I-130 visa petition. Secured immigrant status for daughter after appealing adverse decision to Board of Immigration Appeals.
